O órgano da Compañía, doutra maneira (“the organ in the Company, in a different way”) is an organ music series which intends to bring life into this valuable instrument, part of the heritage of the University and the city of Santiago de Compostela, allowing for a different approach, away from conventions, to its music and its acoustic and expressive resources and possibilities.

In this first edition, it comprises three main activities:

Led by the Oman Consort, one of the most renowned ensembles specializing in Baroque music at an international level, we will embark on a music tour of works from around 1700.

The organ will also provide the music for a silent film, Zemlva (“Earth”), by Alexander Dovjenko, USSR, 1930. Finally, musical improvisation for organ and electric guitar, in a combination which is as unusual as versatile and surprising.

In addition, we will have a concert-talk for different early keyboard instruments (harpsichord, regal, organetto...) presided over by the baroque organ of the Church of the University, in order to get a close look at the evolution and types of these instruments and the repertoires they were used for in their time.

Our guest, the organ of the Church of the Company, was built in 1801 by the local maker José Sanz for the Sancti Spiritus Chaplaincy, which then held its services in this temple. It was restored by Gerhard Grenzing’s organ workshop in 1998. Located in the high choir of the church, in the left-hand side, the instrument is a polyphonic organ with one single manual en fenêtre, and it stands out because of its 24 stops, which include flautado, címbala, corneta, trompeta real, clarín and others. Although built at a later date, it still represents the typical characteristics of Spanish baroque organs.
